And I am going to be twice as busy next year! Literally. I have 6 mares confirmed!
One Ardie, one Hokki and 4 Paints. Holy schmoley, don't know what I was thinking! That is the ratio I want on the ranch, about 2/3 Paints and 1/3 drafts, but I didn't have to do it all in one year. I may start trying some of the Hokkaidos in some jumping classes. They are quite athletic and instead of them jumping from pasture to pasture and out of their paddocks, they may as well earn some money doing it, lol!
So, this year I have again gone with an outside stallion that I fell in love with over at White Thorn Ranch. Not sure why I love him so much, he isn't one of their great champs, but I really wanted to give him a shot. So meet Ollie. He is a looker and has the traits that I am trying to bring up in my trail horses. Very smart and very surefooted. Confirmed in foal to Ollie are:
Saffi
Rouge
Memzie
Lava
Lava is a new girl that I found in the classifieds and she has a pedigree with a lot of my favorite Paints from long ago so I am very excited to see how this match works out. I bought her specifically as a broodmare and right now I have her out at the trainer's and will have Riley start exercising her when she comes home to see where she tops out.
I also picked up a couple of nice horses at auction recently, an Ardie stallion and a Hokkaido mare, and she is bred to local stock stallion Flyer, who produced such amazing fillies for me this year. She is a varnish and I am hoping she does not pass that on, but if she does, that's okay too. Just trying to get the breed's standards up and will correct color as we get that accomplished. Anyway, here is our pretty new mare, Nessi. I have just been amazed at how strong she is becoming with exercising alone. I knew it was in her pedigree but I really didn't expect her to turn out this nice.
And, last, but not least, is a lovely mare I purchased from A Clash of Kings Ranch. They had other time commitments come up and had to sell off a lot of stock, and since we had been breeding partners, I got first shot at them. Py is a gorgeous girl, very stocky and typey for the breed, so I am hoping she can add something to my little herd with her fabulous looks. She is bred to our own custom stallion, Chevy.
Now, who wants to come be my slave labor next year when all these girls drop at once? Lol!
No need for slave labor, you'll never see me, but I'll be there. ;) -ninja stalks mares- Can't wait to see how Flyer produces with the new mare. I knew he'd do well last season. :)
ReplyDeleteOooh I am so excited to see Ollie's foals! These will probably be his last since I didn't have any straws stored. ):
ReplyDeleteI love Nessi and Py! How gorgeous! Ollie was quite the handsome boy! He should cross well with your lines.
