Finally got the rewiring done and the new cams in and just in time! The mice played havoc with our system over the winter, but we have added two amazing little barn cats, Lucy and Yeti, and we should not have a repeat of that issue.
Anyway, we have 3 foals coming this spring. A bit later than normal for us, which makes them all the more anticipated. First up is Miko, a beautiful amber splash Hokkaido. She is bred to Tangle, a fabulous local boy that we owned for far too short a time. I did collect him and had several foals by him, but this will be the last. I am really hoping for a great filly, probably bay or amber. Miko is already making a lot of progress. She has a bag like a dairy cow, is pure mush in the rear, has milk in her teats and just a bit ago, Jack passed through the office and said she had a bit of wax! So, any day now. She has had one other foal, also by Tangle. He was sold as I was overrun with colts. He was a bay splash.
Next on the roster is Daphne. She is carrying Chevy's first foal. This was an experimental breeding. I am checking to see if the stud book registry goes by year or month of birth when determining age. So, this foal may end up not being eligible for registry, but it will still be trained and used for farm work. We are trying to go as green as possible and a horse can do a lot of work we would normally use a tractor for. I am super excited to see how Chevy does as a sire. And a friend has already requested straws for a breeding for next year, so his career as a sire is already taking off. Daphne is due in Eyz and is showing no signs yet, although she is huge!
The last is the one I am most excited about. It is a cross between my most recent GCh, Saffira and my recently departed, dearly loved WCh Panama. This will be Saffi's first foal and should be utterly amazing! I don't have any specific hopes, just for a great foal, which is not in any doubt. She is not due until Qerta, still 3 months off, so I am going to be tearing my hair out by then! She is looking quite pregnant and seems to be enjoying her semiretirement. We are keeping her in show condition and will probably show her again after she foals.
So the cams are up and running. Feel free to call if you see a mare showing signs of imminent foaling or any other issues you think need attention. I would rather get a call and have it be about nothing, than miss something important. Right now, we just have Miko stalled, but we will start bringing Daphne in at night when she starts developing a bag. As an experienced mom, she could go fast without showing many signs in advance. Hope you enjoy watching our girls!
