I have been very eagerly awaiting the birth of my first Saffi foal, and early this month she had this wonderful filly! But, as if beauty and fabulous sweet temper weren't enough, she blew me away in her first month of training!
She had a LOT of energy for such a young foal, so we started with 10 minutes of exercise to calm and steady her a bit and then she was good for a full half hour of training. Of course, we started right off with the halter and she was totally comfortable wearing a halter for any length of time within about 10 days. Next I clipped a lead line to it and that took a bit longer but still only another 2 1/2 weeks or so and I could lead her anywhere and she had such nice movement while doing it. Now, we have started with standing tied and she doesn't like it, but I can already see her starting to come around to it a bit. I ended every day with 10 to 30 minutes of grooming, depending on how much time I had left in my day, and I think all that bonding has been a great thing for both of us. She has also gained quite a bit of strength. I think that very early bonding and training is going to make a great reining champion out of her! Just amazed at the difference when you are able to start right away when they are still just days old.

Good luck with her! She's such a cutie, and talented too!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I am really impressed with her so far.
