First of all, I said I would let you all know how Memzie did in her first shows, and it was amazing. Andrea and I were a bundle of nerves, waiting for Memzie's class. Thankfully, Memz was cool as a cucumber. She got in that ring, Andrea took a deep breath and they looked absolutely professional. I was grinning from ear to ear as she parked out. Yeah, she didn't hold the position as long as I would have liked, but she is still really a baby, only barely 3 and just recently fully saddle broke. Then her walk was very nice, although she stumbled a bit when asked to trot. But, for a beginner, I thought she did fabulous. And apparently, the judge agreed. Gave her a score of 79!!! Then, we were getting ready to leave and the judge waved me over and said I might want to hang around a bit longer. We were stunned when she was awarded the ribbon for highest points in the whole show! She beat out 48 other entries for that! Now to start entering her in shows with enough competitors to earn points. Then, I got a call from Jack, who had taken the other horses to a different show and he told me Brownie had earned his final point to become a Beginner Champion. I could hear the smile in his voice.
So, my other big news. I have been struggling through a lot of sleepless nights and high blood pressure, but I finally made the decision to close out the Fjord ranch. I sold about a third of the stock after discussing it with Cate for several hours. Seems she and Cory were trying to figure out how to tell me she wanted to go back to school full time so she could finally become a vet. So, instead of setting them up in charge of the place, they are just going to live in the house there, and only keep their personal horses and make sure things are maintained and secure while Cory continues online classes and Jake doesn't have to transfer schools. Cate will be attending school in Bozeman, they have a great veterinary medicine program there. When she finishes, they will probably move, but I am hoping by then that I can talk her into starting her own practice here.
So, now I will be focusing on raising great halter and reining horses and a few drafts. I am excited about the future, my blood pressure is down and I am sleeping better, so I think it was the best decision I could have made. Oh, and one more bit of good news. Doc was out a few days ago and both Saffi and Daohne are confirmed in foal for next year! So excited to have new babies coming.
I'm sorry that you closed Prairie Rose Stables, but I am proud to have some of the PRS horses before the rest left. I'm really excited about the stock I have!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your showing successes! And I'm sorry to hear about PRS, but I understand the decision. Let Cate know that she is always welcome to come visit WUSD while she is in the area.
