I have some sad news. I was working with Zorro this month and that is when I noticed again this issue with ground driving. I was trying to teach him to rein and he was flipping out when the reins touched him. How he made it to intermediate champion I will never know! Anyway, I didn't feel safe on his
back, so I got him proficient on the ground and then tried neck reining again and he got it almost immediately, smart boy! So I was working on spins and some other activities and got so caught up on how great he was doing that I lost track of time and almost worked him to death. He has so much heart that he just kept going until he dropped. I was a mess! Ruth finally understood what I was saying through the sobbing and called Dr. Sam and the guys came in and helped us get him to a stall. Doc got some intravenous fluids in him and we worked out which supplements to give him but it is going to be a VERY long recovery. I still feel horrible and writing about it has brought me to tears again. I did realize something during his workout though. I am going back to my first love and putting all the paints back in western classes. Reining is my first love, but we may try some halter and pleasure horses too. Maybe even some trail. I will not retrain any of my eventing horses except Brownie and possibly Diva, as they are pretty well established in what they are doing. But, from here on out, we are Western all the way!
