I really like to know what the staff is doing and thinking, and I like to keep them apprised of what I am doing and thinking, so we hold a staff meeting on the last Friday of the month. Religiously. Well, this month, I had to get to the bottom of the ground driving issue. I have noticed
that every horse I have trained recently is sorely lacking in this area. Turns out, Andrea thought Kayley was doing it and vice versa. So, all the horses will be refreshed in this skill to make sure they have it down. This also led to the making of a chart of all the goals for groundwork, saddle training, and the different disciplines we are involved in. There is one in the tack room and one in the office. I am also having smaller laminated copies made of the different areas of focus that can be put on a clipboard and written on with dry erase markers, so that each trainer knows what to do with each horse. When they are done training they can then enter their notes into each individual horses spreadsheet on the computer. That way, in the evening, I can sit down in my big easy chair with my iPad and see where everyone stands. I think this is going to be a huge help.
Very Good idea! I do something similar, except I have them enter their notes directly into the charts from small tablet computers with destruction proof cases (and a KILLER insurance policy). LOL. As it never failed with the paper charts I had to go hunting for them and enter it in myself!
